Around the corner, Nationwide and International Relocation Services
Through our Team affiliation with Star Relocation Network Alliance, we can provide you with a single point of contact relocation service that will make your next move as easy as possible.
Here is how the overall process works:
- You list your property for sale with us and/or we find you a home to purchase.
- We contact Star's Personal Relocation Counselors (PRC) and provide them with your information and circumstances
- A Personal Relocation Counselor will begin immediate communication with you.
- The relocation process will be thoroughly explained and the process to assess your unique needs will begin.
- Quotes from multiple reputable companies will be provided to you based on individual needs. You will choose which service providers to use.
- Your PRC will schedule required services and reserve the qualified labor as needed.
- During the move, you and your PRC will be in contact as needed to insure the process is moving smoothly and as expected.
- After the move a Post Move evaluation will be conducted to see that we met the expectations of the client.
See below for a more detailed explanation or contact us directly for more information.
Intrastate Moves
Moving within your own state is normally considered a local or “intrastate” move. However, while most local moves are based on an hourly labor charge, moves over 50 miles are typically charged on a weight and mileage basis.
Depending on the state in which you reside, moving charges can either be regulated or deregulated. This simply means that movers in regulated states charge rates according to a published tariff as contrasted to movers in deregulated states who have pricing flexibility and often provide discounts. The States of California and Texas are semi-regulated which means that movers have certain caps on their discounting levels. It is important to discuss liability and cargo insurance with your moving company prior to the loading of your household goods.
While most local moving charges are based upon the number of men and hours provided, the single most important way to ensure a productive and cost-efficient move is to be organized.
Interstate Moves
Interstate moves, also referred to as “long distance” moves, are based on the following information and charged under the moving industry’s Tariff 400-N:
- Weight of shipment
- Mileage from both origin and destination address
- Amount of packing required
- Automobile or other bulky articles
- Amount of valuation protection coverage
Tariff 400-N serves as the principal moving industry tariff that governs the transportation of household goods between points in the United States and Canada.
Since 1936, when the first interstate household goods tariff was published and filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission, shipments have been rated on a line-item basis for each specific service that was performed by the mover. Shipments were rated based on each individual additional service, such as elevator service, stair carries, tolls, and appliance servicing, that was performed by the carrier.
Tariff 400-N marks an important departure from previous tariffs and changes the way that transportation rates apply for interstate movers. The new tariff incorporates many of the commonly-applied individual additional service charges, such as all elevator, flight and excessive distance carry charges, all piano and organ carries, and all additional transportation charges into a single Origin/Destination Service Fee (Item 135) that applies along with the transportation charges in order to simplify the application of the tariff.
In addition, in order to further simplify the application of the tariff, shipments that receive complete (full) packing service are now rated on a per hundredweight basis. Also, a number of provisions that were infrequently applied, including Shipments on Tour, Empty Miles, Travel Time, and Signature Service have been cancelled and no longer appear in the tariff.
The other big change that has been made in the new tariff is the use of zip codes to rate shipments. The former point-to-point distance application has been replaced with a zip code-to-zip code rating system for determining the transportation charges and additional services.
It is important to discuss liability and cargo insurance with your moving company prior to the loading of your household goods.
International Moves
Moving your family to a foreign country is a major undertaking. Although making the arrangements, traveling and finally settling into your new home may be exciting, it demands a great deal of time and effort. Much of this, however, can be avoided through careful planning and preparation. A successful household relocation is the beginning of a smooth transition into a new environment.
International moving presents challenges that are not encountered in domestic shipping. The increased physical stresses on an international shipment require unique packing and loading skills as well as a detailed knowledge of all facets of transportation systems and a myriad of import and export regulations.
Star Relocation’s Personal Move Counselors will assist you in every phase of the move process including:
- Pre-move counseling
- Pre-move survey of your household goods and personal effects by our origin agent
- Insight into customs requirements and necessary paperwork
- Quality materials to wrap and pack small items into new cartons at residence or packing of all clothing to be shipped in wardrobe cartons
- Wrapping, padding, and loading valuables/fragile items into specially constructed wooden crates

- Loading of all items into a steamship container or wooden lift vans
